About Steve

My Journey

I’ve always been drawn to helping, teaching, and developing others, which naturally led me into coaching and performance.

I earned my B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and continued developing through the CSCS, USA Weightlifting, Barbell Rehab, USA Boxing, TPI, and Golf Digest education. Coaching across multiple sports, working with Keiser technology, and competing in Olympic weightlifting gave me different perspectives on how performance is built, expressed, and restored over time.

A significant low-back injury that kept me out of competition for three years further shaped my interest in durability, repeatability, and re-attaining previously developed performance.

Over time, those experiences converged into Evans Velo Zone™ and one central question:

How is performance retained, transferred, developed, and re-attained over time?

How EVZ Was Built

EVZ™ was shaped through years of coaching, competition, continuing education, and performance technology use.

I did not set out to create another performance metric. I was trying to make sense of patterns I kept seeing in practice, athletes who could produce impressive outputs, but whose performance changed as demands changed.

My experience in Olympic weightlifting exposed me directly to longitudinal strength-and-power development and to how performance is built, progressed, reduced, and restored across training cycles. Coaching athletes across multiple sports added another layer of context.

EVZ became my way of organizing those observations and experiences into a structured developmental framework that could be used, tested, and refined over time.

Applied practitioner experience, translated into a structured system for athlete development.

Background & Credentials

With a B.S. in Kinesiology, CSCS credentials, and advanced certifications including USA Weightlifting Level 2 and TPI Level 2, Steve’s work blends biomechanics, velocity based training, and applied coaching experience.

Coaching Philosophy

I believe training should do more than produce impressive numbers in isolated moments. It should help athletes build performance they can rely on when the demands change.

My coaching is built around purposeful progression, clear feedback, and paying attention to how athletes actually respond over time, not just what the program was supposed to produce on paper.

Technology can strengthen that process, but it never replaces coaching judgment. Data, observation, athlete context, and training history all have to work together.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple:

Help athletes become more capable, more adaptable, and more dependable when it matters.

Founder’s Statement

Evans Velo Zone™ was created to help coaches look beyond peak output and understand how performance is retained, transferred, developed, and re-attained over time.

Retention → Transfer → Output → Re-attainment

EVZ does not replace established training methods or technology, but adds a structured layer of interpretation that helps turn performance evidence into clearer developmental decisions.

As a Black and Filipino American founder, I also value visibility, access, and representation. As EVZ grows, I hope to create opportunities, mentorship, education, and access for emerging practitioners, especially those from backgrounds underrepresented in sports performance and technology.

Who I Help

I work with athletes, coaches, and performance organizations seeking greater clarity in how athletic performance develops over time.

For athletes: build more durable, repeatable performance that remains available when it matters.

For coaches:
identify performance patterns, clarify developmental priorities, and make more informed training decisions.

For organizations:
implement a structured framework for evaluating, developing, and monitoring athletic performance across athletes and coaches.

The goal is to turn meaningful performance evidence into better developmental decisions.
